UPPER PALATINATE WATERMAN
Aquarius Philipp Sommerer
The office of "Upper Palatinate Pond Nixie" has existed since 1999. Inspired by beer queens, wine princesses, and similar "product royalty," the ARGE Fisch (Fish Association) in the Tirschenreuth district crowned the first Pond Nixie, Carola Beer from the Beer fish farm in Kleinsterz. Since then, nine Pond Nixies have enriched many events and events for the almost 1,000-year-old pond farming tradition and served as sympathetic ambassadors for the traditional fish farming of the Upper Palatinate. Now it's time for a change – for the first time, a man holds the office of Upper Palatinate Water Nixie. Philipp Sommer, a passionate angler and amateur chef, will be the most important representative of Upper Palatinate carp throughout Germany and beyond in the coming years!
Philipp has always been fascinated by ponds and their inhabitants. He has a particular interest in fish cuisine – as a passionate amateur chef, he transforms local fish into true delicacies that delight both the eye and the palate of fish lovers.
As a waterman, Philipp will even wear carp leather – in addition to the official "Aquarius sash," parts of his suit are also made of this special material. Philipp's suit was designed and tailored by the Kreuzer tailor shop in Plößberg. Also included, in addition to the sash, is "Fridolin," the carp scepter. Philipp can be found at all major carp and fish farming events in the Tirschenreuth district, throughout Bavaria, and far beyond. Always with the goal of introducing people to our unique cultural landscape and the phenomenal fish cuisine in the Land of 1,000 Ponds.
