Rama-dama im Steinwald
Garbage collection campaign with children
This time, the amount of trash in the areas of the forester's lodge, Hackelstein Rock, the "Stone Horse," and the Maria Frieden Chapel was kept to a minimum. "Fortunately, the mountain of trash remained manageable," says Nina Lang of the Steinwald Alliance. The twelve girls and boys were accompanied by Nina Lang from the Steinwald Alliance, as well as nature park ranger Cornelia Greiner and its managing director Elisabeth Frank. In Pfaben, seven children, along with Cornelia Straubinger (Tirschenreuth District Office) and Anja Zölch (Steinwald Alliance), also searched for trash on their way to the Waldhaus restaurant. As a reward, each group enjoyed a picnic at the foot of the Hackelstein and at the Waldhaus.
Collected and subsequently handed over to the Erbendorf public works department for disposal were countless pieces of porcelain and glass shards, cigarette butts, used and unused tissues and their wrappers, a carpet knife, the remains of a broken car rearview mirror, a rusted battery, a wool sock, an iron hook attached to a ribbon, a plastic flowerpot, and the remains of red and white barrier tape that had been lying near the Maria Frieden Chapel at the edge of the forest. Bags and several buckets were eventually filled with unsightly items. And along the way, the children learned a lot of interesting facts about the forest's flora and fauna. A quiz offered the chance to win a wooden medal and the Stone Forest Memory Game. The participants were very satisfied with the results and are therefore planning further garbage collection campaigns next year.
