Naturpark Steinwald ausgezeichnet als Qualitätsnaturpark

Honor at the Burgurine Weißenstein

The Steinwald Nature Park eV has received the "Quality Nature Park" seal of approval from the Association of German Nature Parks (VDN). On March 28, 2022, the Bavarian State Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection, Thorsten Glauber, personally presented the certificate to the association at the Weißenstein Castle ruins in the heart of the nature park.

Glauber described the numerous species conservation programs of the Steinwald Nature Park—whether it's the projects for arnica, freshwater pearl mussel, adder, bats, eagle owl, or lynx—as a model for all of Bavaria and thanked those responsible for their outstanding work. "The Steinwald is particularly committed to protecting biodiversity, but also stands for nature-friendly recreation and sustainable regional development," the minister explained. The lynx has also become native again in the Steinwald.

What is a quality nature park?

With this certificate, a nature park demonstrates high quality in the areas of conservation, recreation, education, development, and management, and strives to continuously improve these. To become a Quality Nature Park, a park must achieve at least 300 out of 500 points in the VDN's criteria catalog. Steinwald Nature Park received this title in its first application and thus receives an additional boost.
