Local History and Mining Museum
Erbendorf
Town history, minerals, and traditional crafts: the Local History and Mining Museum focuses on more than just mining. The diverse exhibitions are ideal for different age groups. Even the little ones won't miss out. Discover the diverse facets of the region!
Mining in Erbendorf has been documented since the early 13th century. Until its closure in 1927, miners extracted lead, silver, zinc, copper, and even gold from the ground. This proud mining tradition came to an abrupt end. The mineral and rock collection, featuring treasures from the region, is also worth seeing. Crafts are just as much a part of the experience here as the merchant class and the railway era, which spanned the entire 20th century. A corner shop, the old school, and an old hair salon from Erbendorf bring the town's history to life. The porcelain industry was and remains an important economic pillar, with an exhibition presenting early works of porcelain art. To this day, a porcelain company still operates a factory in Erbendorf.
