EXPERIENCE GLASS GRINDING PULLENREUTH

The Pullenreuth Glass Mill is a hands-on experience in the Arnoldsreuth district. It features an information center about the glassmaking industry, a grinder's trail, and a restaurant.

The glass grinding shop is located in a forest clearing in the Pullenreuth district of Arnoldsreuth, 200 meters from the hiking parking lot of the same name. From the 18th to the early 20th century, Upper Palatinate was a center for an important trade: the grinding and polishing of glass for the production of mirrors. To ensure that this craft is not forgotten, the Steinwaldia society has revived a former glass grinding shop in Pullenreuth as an information center. Large overview panels, short documentary films, fascinating exhibitions on finds and excavations, and lectures transport you to the world of yesterday. There is also information on the Steinwald Nature Park and the Bavaria-Bohemia Geopark. On the 1.5 km long "Grinders' Trail," which begins directly at the glass grinding shop, you can learn more about glass grinding, the history of the forest, and the geology of the Steinwald. The glass grinding shop has a small restaurant with a guest room and beer garden in the adjacent building. Hikers and cyclists stop here during the summer months. It is surrounded to the west and east by the Franconian Mountain Trail, which leads from the Kellermühle and the Harlachberg car park, respectively. The Steinwald cycle path runs nearby. Drivers should follow the signs from Arnolsreuth.

OPENING HOURS:
The glass grinding is currently only available during Eventsor open upon request.

FRESHWATER PEARL MUSSEL INFORMATION CENTER

Freshwater Pearl Mussel Information Center Grenzmühle in the Steinwald Nature Park

In the newly constructed building of a former fish farm, you can now learn all about the freshwater pearl mussel. It is the best-known of the native large mussel species and the only one that produces ornamental pearls. The lovingly furnished information center caters to everyone, young and old. You can take your time exploring the exhibition texts or learn about the life of the freshwater pearl mussel with the help of an interactive screen. The illustrations used in the screens make the freshwater pearl mussel extremely attractive, even for children. Attached to the center is a holding station, separated from the visitor area. Behind this, the young mussels are raised, which will later populate the streams in and around the Steinwald Forest. The associations responsible for the project are the Steinwald Nature Park Association and the Southern Steinwald Cultural Landscape Association.

MARKET HALL FUCHSMÜHL

In the historic Fuchsmühl Market Hall, the beauty of the Steinwald Forest is presented with a focus on general information about the nature park, drinking water, and species conservation projects for arnica, adders, and the fire salamander. A particularly eye-catching feature is an elevation model of the entire nature park with interactive modules. Also on site is an intact fountain and a village shop with a café. The "Craftwerk Tree" in the pavilion in front of the Market Hall is particularly worth a visit. The tree explains the process of plant photosynthesis in an impressive LED installation, which also features highly understandable dialogue in the background. The nearby Forest Adventure Trail, an interactive course centered around the forest ecosystem, is especially fun for children. Here, you always have to do something to access information: via viewing tubes, gates, and much more. Water lovers should definitely pack their swimwear during the summer months, as the path leads over the Fuchsmühl forest swimming pond.

OPENING HOURS:
