Excursion tips in autumn

Tips for connoisseurs and nature lovers

It's autumn, when it gets dark faster in the evenings, temperatures drop noticeably below 10 degrees Celsius, and the leaves change color. This wonderful time of year awakens our spirit of discovery. So get outside and experience our beautiful nature! We have a few autumn tips for you: from a leisurely stroll to a more challenging hike.

Hackelstein

The Hackelstein is ideal for a short Sunday or after-work stroll, as well as for a longer hike through the Steinwald forest. This rock formation is the local mountain of the pilgrimage site of Fuchsmühl. Thanks to a climbing facility, the imposing granite castle is easily climbable. The rock is up to 15 meters high. It's worth taking a closer look:

Below the Hackelstein lies the Augsburger Felsen massif, a popular climbing rock.

By the way: Around 40 fairytale houses are hidden in the recesses of the Hackelstein. It's worth a closer look!

Wiesauer Waldseen

Gourmet hike through the land of 1000 ponds

This gourmet tour leads through part of Europe's oldest pond landscape – to the Wiesau fishing villages of Kornthan and Muckenthal. The Muckenthal pond basin is one of two large pond basins in the Tirschenreuth district, which is home to over 4,700 ponds. Due to the many direct fish marketers, Kornthan, along with Muckenthal, has been designated one of Bavaria's 100 gourmet locations. Peace, forest, and nature await you here, and you should take plenty of time to enjoy them. Birdsong, the sound of waves, and the wind in the trees will be your companions. You might even catch a boisterous carp diving, which will immediately dive back down with a gentle splash.

By the way: This hiking tour also leads to the Haferdeckmühle and the Adelsfriedhof near Friedenfels!

Riverside path in the Waldnaabtal nature reserve

The riverside path is one of the most beautiful sections of the 12 km long nature reserve. For older children and the young at heart, hikes along the riverside path are a must in the Waldnaab Valley. Boulders and forest streams line the course of the Waldnaab, so hikers occasionally have to balance over hill and dale, steps, or even narrow bridges. You can use the second bridge after the Tischstein to cross the Waldnaab. This is where the return journey on the Goldsteig trail begins. A visit to the water wheel near the log cabin is definitely a must!
