Please be considerate of wild animals

Note from the Steinwald Nature Park eV

This winter, the wild animals in the Steinwald Forest (especially red deer and roe deer) will suffer particularly badly. Firstly, they are experiencing the usual winter food shortages, to which they are well adapted. Secondly, there are many more people seeking recreation in the Steinwald Forest this winter than usual. The government's measures to combat the coronavirus practically prohibit travel. Therefore, the majority of the population is enjoying vacations at home and discovering the beauty of their homeland. Of course, we wish everyone this from the bottom of our hearts – but please be considerate of the needs of the wild animals!

Please note:
  1. Please only use color-marked hiking trails, cycle paths and cross-country ski trails.
  2. Please no cross-country hiking – neither on foot, by bike, nor on skis.
  3. Please plan your visit to nature during daylight hours – not at dusk or at night.
In winter, the animals significantly reduce their body circulation. They rest a lot and try to move as little as possible to conserve energy during the food-scarce period. During this time, the animals live primarily on their body fat reserves. If disturbed during this time, they must flee and expend energy. If this happens too frequently, the animals suffer and risk starvation.

If you're willing to accept these small restrictions, you can enjoy your relaxation in the beautiful Stone Forest while actively contributing to animal welfare!
